How Technology has Changed Our Holiday Experience

Let us get on to a time machine and
think of how our family vacations used to look like two or three decades back.
You might have been just a child then, but a lot of those memories would surely
be still fresh in your mind. If you take a good look at what you will see, and
then fast forward yourself back to the present, you will be shocked how much
everything has changed. Most families still spend a lot of effort on deciding
where to go, they still forget things they should have brought, and bring
things they won’t need. The desire to get parking LaGuardia is still intact, and
so is the race to get the cheapest airline tickets and best hotel rooms. So
what exactly has changed in the last few decades? The one big change that has
impacted so many aspects of a family’s holiday experience is technology. Most
of the changes you would see today are a fallout of the technological
advancements we have seen, and this blog is an attempt to highlight how
technology has changed our holiday experience.
The biggest change has been in the
way you decide on your destination and the itinerary. Earlier you used to have
solemn discussions (and sometimes fights!) within the family at the dinner
table or on the living room couch and maybe ask around among neighbors,
friends, or relatives. Today you have a plethora of travel bloggers, travel
review websites and also listicle sites telling you about the ’10 best
destinations this summer’. Some of these reviewers take great pains to give you
the smallest detail, even telling you things like the SJC long term parking rates. You can now also use
technology to compare hotel and air ticket prices, and you can use technology
more easily to keep in touch with your loved ones (and also your workplace)
while you are on vacation.
